Masayoshi-san spun off from Tojo’s, a well-known high-end Japanese restaurant in Vancouver, and opened his own restaurant on Fraser street in 2016.
You can book for 6pm of 8pm and the menu is only Omakase. When you make a reservation, you need to tell them in advance whether you want 14 sushi or 16 pieces of sushi and appetizers.
We made a reservation a month in advance so the counter seat was available.👌

Winter Japanese Amberjack, tuna, and whelk shell

The crab was so sweet.

They are all super fresh and tasty. Especially, I loved the smoked Spanish mackerel.

The dessert was sweet potato.

We really enjoyed the dining experience. The quality, presentation, service and chef’s work were excellent.
Looking at the old restaurant reviews, I found that many of them gave low ratings saying “it’s expensive, the menu is small, and the portions are small.” etc. It is not “sushi = cheap, fast food”. This is high-end sushi restaurant where you can enjoy real Japanese food.
The concept of Omakase is becoming more and more popular in Vancouver.
Masayoshi is not a place I can go often, but it’s a place where I would love to go on special occasions.
