Fundraising Event: Kids Marche -Let’s go find your favorite!-

アイコン名を入力

We held a fundraising event for “Ohanashi Ohanashi”, the Kids’ Marche!

Now in its third year, “Ohanashi Ohanashi” and “Ohanashi Baby” are gatherings started by Ogojo Canada in 2017 to provide a place where Japanese mothers and fathers who are raising their children in Vancouver can take a break with their children, meet each other and exchange information.

The fee is set at a low price so that it does not become a burden on young families, and we have a drop-in system so that anyone can come anytime. Because of this, we do not have enough funds to purchase books or supplies, and our staff are volunteers.

For the third year, we want to add new picture books and buy new equipment. We decided to hold a fundraising event for Ohanashi Ohanashi, “Kids Marche”.

List of Vendors

Once again, we had the cooperation of business people in Vancouver. They donated 10% of the sales to Ohanashi Ohanashi.

Tama Organic

They have been selling organic vegetables in Vancouver for over 20 years. They brought us a full of fresh organic vegetables and homemade natto in the car for our children and families!

At Tama’s store, you can find almost all Japanese ingredients such as homemade natto, konjac, and brown rice cakes. She also offers a very popular daily bento lunch box based on a macrobiotic diet of brown rice.

Deep Snow Creations

The owner, Miyuki, has loved sewing since she was a child, and her grandmother, who sewed kimonos, taught her how to make various things. After her child was born, she wished she had something like that or something like that, and the first thing she made was a girl’s poncho. She was often approached by her daughter when she saw her wearing one. So, she started selling ponchos.

After that, she started making things that she, her family, and friends needed, and as her children got older, she had more time to make things.

 ef and be BAKEHOUSE

They sell high quality Japanese curry buns, melon buns, and other products that can only be purchased on line. They made a lot of melon bread and brought it to us.

As of 2021, both of them have successfully expanded their activities.

Yukie & Rieko

They sold ceramic items such as plates and teacups, as well as hair ornaments and earrings for children. In Japan, Yukie taught pottery and worked as a store display artist. Rieko is very good at making small things.

I bought a teacup and a teapot. The colors and quality are very nice. My daughter loved the clip-on earrings and hairpins made by Rieko.

Double trees Healing

Shiho does Indian head massage and healing, and also holds meditation sessions. Today, she made bath salts using aromatherapy with our offerings.

Handworks Coffee Studio

There is a cafe in Burnaby where you can drink coffee made from coffee beans that are hand-roasted by the owner. The coffee has a gentle taste and is very tasty. Some Japanese goods are also sold at the cafe.

Yu, the organizer, made a lot of Japanese sweets with her mother-in-law. The special strawberry daifuku sold like hotcakes.

Ogojo Jan Chili Sauce

WakWak Burger

They sold hamburgers for lunch outside the venue.

Ohanashi Ohanashi (Story Time)

This was a collaboration of music and picture books by Naoko, a Music Activity Specialist. After the reading of “Kon to Aki”, Naoko played the violin and Akiko, the organizer of “Ohanashi Ohanashi”, played the piano.

The panel theater at 1:00 was “The Wonderful Hat Shop”. A lot of people came to join us at Ohanashi Ohanashi!

After the Event

We had a lot of volunteers who helped us with this event.  After deciding on the date, we found out that the date overlapped with the Japan Market, the venue was smaller than we expected, and we were not allowed to use the library for storytelling. I felt like I was going to lose my way many times.

If I’m going to do this, I want it to be fun. If I’m going to do it, I want to enjoy it. If I’m going to do it, I want to do it right.

How can we do it under such bad conditions? That’s all I’ve been thinking about and preparing for the past four months. With the positive power and qualified abilities of Ogojo Canada partner Yu, and the precise advice from Akiko, who has been helping us with Ohanashi Ohanashi since the beginning of 2017, we were able to somehow make it to the day!

Seeing the sparkling eyes and happy smiles on the children’s faces when they found something they liked made me feel glad that I had never given up. It was also an opportunity for me to be reminded that there are so many talented moms & women out there.

Thanks to everyone’s help, this was a very enjoyable event, and I will use the donations to purchase picture books when I return to Japan in July. Thank you so much!
