Ohanashi Ohanashi Story time Launch Event: Kodomo No Jikan

“Kodomo no Jikan” launch event was held at Tonari Gumi for the start of “Ohanashi Ohanashi” in Sep, 2017.

We planned this event to let people know that “Ohanashi Ohanashi” is about to start. In order to keep the budget low, we made the venue as handmade as possible, and because it was a small room, the atmosphere was important.

Welcome Board

On the day of the event, after opening at 11:00, the venue filled up quickly.

Storytelling by former announcer Tomomi Tomita

Tomomi lives in Vancouver for her husband’s work. She was a popular announcer for YBS Yamanashi Broadcast when she was in Japan. The room was small and the noise was worse than I expected, but her voice was as good as it gets. The children were engrossed in the picture book with sparkling eyes, as if they couldn’t hear the noise around them.

In the afternoon, picture story show by Ohomi.

Ms. Ohomi continues to volunteer her time reading picture story shows at Japanese language schools and reading picture books to senior citizens at Tonari Gumi.

A space for moms and dads to participate together

While the kids are playing, we wanted them to enjoy shopping for clothes, accessories, kids’ clothes! We have prepared a variety of stores where parents can shop with excitement.

Supporting Japanese Women in Canada

Ogojo Canada supports women who are working hard to start their own businesses in Canada. Through this event, we want to let everyone know about these women.

出店者

We sold used clothes that were donated by various people.

The kids sold lemonade and baked donuts.

After Event

We spent two months running around planning and preparing for the event. here were many things I didn’t understand such as getting permits, so I was running left and right. However, my tiredness was lifted by the happy faces of the children who came to ask, “Will there be another one next week?”

This was our first attempt, and we were not sure how many people we would be able to attract, but thanks to the cooperation of Tonari Gumi, who lent us the venue, the vendors who set up booths, the people who willingly offered to volunteer, and the many people who shared our feelings, we were able to hold the event successfully. We are filled with gratitude.

I realized for myself that I could make “I want to do it!” happen with the help of everyone.

We will use the donations from this event and 10% of the sales from the vendors to buy more “Ohanashi Ohanashi” picture books when I return to Japan in June.

Thanks for joining us at the event, everyone!!!! We had so much FUN!!
